Revitalizing Older Steel Buildings

Extend the operational life of your existing structure

Bring Your Steel Building Back to Near-New Condition

In addition to building new, Summit Steel Buildings can renovate an older, existing steel building to extend its lifespan and help you get more out of your initial investment. We can revitalize or reskin your old steel building and bring it back to near-new condition. Replacing steel siding and other components is the most successful way to extend the life of an existing building. If your existing steel building is old, tired or leaking, we can revitalize it. We'll supply you with new replacement panels and all the engineering and technical details so they are installed properly. Re-side your exterior structure with new IMPs, install insulation and make other repairs to add 25 to 35 years to your steel building. Commercial and industrial building owners have long recognized the value of retrofitting and updating their current facilities versus demolition and re-building. It's a proven approach, and it's become much more popular — especially in the last several years when governments across Canada have begun offering subsidies.

Steel corrosion research

Leading Research Into Preventing Steel Corrosion

Summit Steel Buildings has been involved for the last two years in a research project that strives to mitigate corrosion in steel structures. Working with a PhD researcher who specializes in metallurgy from the University of British Columbia, the company has partnered with Dymergent (a private consulting group) and Double Black Construction to investigate ways to make steel materials, metal components and glazes more resistant to rust and corrosion. Positive results could have profound implications for making steel buildings more resistant and durable, especially in harsh, cold and wet climates. A profile of the research project was written by Peter Caulfield and published on the Journal of Commerce's ConstructConnect website on October 9, 2023.
